For close to a year the newly formed MYOB Mac Team has been working on speeding up AccountEdge Network Edition, and now the first phase of our two-phase speed enhancement is ready to go. Released as part of the the July 2008 product update, phase 1 is now available, and phase 2 will be delivered as part of version 2009. Phase 1: Faster transactions
The July 2008 product update brings enhanced network performance by speeding up the recording of transactions when multiple users are in the same file at the same time. The table to the right, which compares Network Edition 2008 versus the July product update, shows the dramatic increase in speed when running various transactions. The benchmarking was done with five users working in the company file. Two users recorded similar transactions simultaneously.
This update is available to anyone running AccountEdge Network Edition v2008. If you are on an older version, you can get the phase 1 speed enhancement by upgrading to version 2008.
Phase 2: Quick list creation
Coming in version 2009, phase 2 speeds up the way in which Network Edition builds lists. The creation of lists occurs throughout the software, from selecting a customer while creating an invoice, to viewing your contacts list, to creating reports. When Network Edition displays data, it does so by building a list.
Phase 2 changes the way in which Network Edition builds lists, using FileConnect on the host Mac to build a list and then deliver it to the user across the network, which in turn brings quicker searches, faster reports and many other speed enhancements. The phase 2 beta has returned some promising early reports, which you can view by clicking the graphic to the right.
The phase 2 enhancements are scheduled to appear in version 2009. Customers on a Complete Support plan at the time of release will receive these enhancements with their v2009 upgrade as part of their plan. If you are not on a support plan, you can upgrade to the 2009 release when available, or you can sign up now for Complete Support at only $24 a month and receive it automatically.
